Matthew Phillips (born 13 March 1991) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger, forward or left wing-back for EFL Championship club Oxford United. He began his career at Wycombe Wanderers before a move to Blackpool. In 2013 he moved to Queens Park Rangers and in 2016 he signed for West Bromwich Albion. He has represented England at under-19 and under-20 level but has subsequently represented Scotland at senior level. Phillips is the son of a Jamaican-born father of Barbadian descent and a Scottish mother. He was born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and is of Scottish descent. His father is of Jamaican descent and his mother is from Barbadian origin. He is the nephew of former England international David Phillips. Phillips has been capped at international level for Scotland, England and Wales. He made his debut for Wycombe in April 2008. He signed for Blackpool on 31 August 2010 in an original £350,000 deal, rising to £700,000 for achieving specific criteria. He spent a spell on loan at Sheffield United, scoring a hat-trick.
