This Is America Tour
The This Is America Tour was Childish Gambino's fifth concert tour, launched in 2018 across North America and Europe. Before the tour, Donald Glover announced his retirement from the Childish Gambino persona during a 2017 performance, hinting it would be his final musical venture. In May 2018, he released the hit single "This Is America," which debuted at number one in the U.S., addressing themes of gun violence and racial identity through its provocative music video.
Glover also released the EP *Summer Pack* later that year, featuring tracks from his upcoming album. The tour included performances of new songs like "Algorhythm" and "All Night," with some songs exclusive to ticket holders. Glover's first show in Atlanta marked the final Gambino performance, where he emphasized the emotional significance of the experience over mere entertainment.
During the tour, Glover faced a setback when he injured his foot during a Dallas concert, forcing an early exit. Despite planning for it as his last tour, Glover later released additional music and announced another tour in 2024, which was partially canceled due to health issues.
Critics praised the tour's emotional depth and energy, with many highlighting its symbolic farewell to the Childish Gambino era while signaling Glover's ongoing evolution as an artist. The tour featured opening acts like Rae Sremmurd, Vince Staples, H.E.R., and Channel Tres, and included a set list spanning Glover's discography, ending with "This Is America."
