The Democratic Party of Lazio (PD Lazio), a regional branch of Italy's main centre-left party, the Italian Democratic Party, was established on October 14, 2007, as part of a merger involving various left-wing and centrist groups. Key participants included the Democrats of the Left, heirs of the Italian Communist Party; *Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy*; and Christian leftists, successors to the late Christian Democracy. The party's leadership includes Fabio Melilli, elected as regional secretary in February 2014 through primary elections, and Lorenza Bonaccorsi, who became president of the Democratic Party of Lazio Assembly on June 23, 2014. Caterina Rijllo and Paolo Acunzo were appointed as vice-presidents. Fabio Melilli, born in Poggio Moiano in 1958, holds a law degree from the University of Rome "La Sapienza." He has served as mayor of Poggio Moiano, president of Rieti province, and head of the Union of Italian Provinces (UPI). He is also a member of the Italian Parliament and part of V Commission on Budget and Planning. Lorenza Bonaccorsi, born in Rome in 1968, earned a degree in economic history from the University of Milan. She has held roles at the Auditorium "Parco della Musica," worked as head of communications for Paolo Gentiloni during the Prodi government, and served as head of Institutional Relations for Lazio Region. She was elected to Parliament in 2013 and joined Matteo Renzi's National Secretariat in September 2014.
