Turtle Soup
Turtle Soup is the fifth and final studio album by the American rock band The Turtles, released in 1969 on White Whale Records. It was produced by Ray Davies of The Kinks, marking his first production work for another artist. The album peaked at number 117 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. Two singles from the album, "You Don't Have to Walk in the Rain" and "Love in the City," charted on the Billboard Pop Singles chart at numbers 51 and 91, respectively.
Recording sessions took place at United Recording Studios in Los Angeles over two weeks in April and June-July 1969. Chuck Britz engineered the sessions, while Ray Pohlman provided string and horn arrangements. The album features 11 tracks written by band members Howard Kaylan, Mark Volman, Al Nichol, Jim Pons, and John Seiter.
Reissues of Turtle Soup included bonus tracks: an expanded CD release by Repertoire Records in 1993 added eight extra tracks, while a 1996 Sundazed Music reissue included two additional songs. The album's track listing includes "Come Over," "House on the Hill," "She Always Leaves Me Laughing," "How You Love Me," and "You Don't Have to Walk in the Rain." Bonus material across various editions features demos, alternate versions, and unreleased recordings.
