Thomas Wheeldon Jr., born on 3 May 1979 in Liverpool, England, is a former professional footballer and current head coach of Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League. His father, Tommy Wheeldon Sr., was also a professional player for Everton and England's Under-18 team. Wheeldon studied sports science at the University of Surrey. Wheeldon began his playing career with Swindon Town before moving to Torquay United. In 2002, he joined Calgary Storm in Canada, making 28 appearances over two seasons while also serving as an academy coach and soccer camp director. After Calgary Storm folded, Wheeldon remained in Canada to focus on grassroots development. Wheeldon's coaching career started with Calgary Foothills, where he became technical director in 2008 and head coach when the club joined the Premier Development League in 2015. He led them to the PDL Championship Final in his second season and won the Jack Buckler Award in 2016 for his contributions to Calgary soccer. In 2018, Wheeldon became Cavalry FC's first head coach and general manager, guiding the team to win both the spring and fall seasons in the 2019 Canadian Premier League. Cavalry also reached the semifinals of the 2019 Canadian Championship, defeating MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps along the way. Wheeldon won the CPL Coach of the Year award in 2019 and again in 2023 after leading Cavalry to another regular season victory.
