Matthew J. Schindler, born on November 22, 1983, in Hagerstown, Maryland, is an American politician serving as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from District 2B. He is a Democrat and previously served on the Hagerstown City Council from March 2023 to November 2024. Schindler earned a Bachelor of Science in computer networks and cybersecurity from the University of Maryland, University College, after attending Hagerstown Community College. Schindler works as an IT manager for the National Capital Bank of Washington. He ran for the Hagerstown city council in 2020 but lost the nonpartisan primary, securing only 5.5% of the vote. In 2023, he was appointed to fill the remaining term of departing councilor Tekesha Martinez after her appointment as mayor and served until November 2024. During his time on the city council, Schindler focused on issues like police staffing, economic development, and violent crime. In December 2024, Schindler was nominated by the Washington County Democratic Central Committee to fill the vacated Maryland House of Delegates seat left by Brooke Grossman's resignation. He was sworn in on January 7, 2025. Politically, Schindler has advocated for cost-effective stadium solutions, police retention initiatives, and economic revitalization.
