Eddie Keer was a legendary figure in hurling, both as a player and coach. Born in 1948 in Inistioge, Kilkenny, he began his hurling journey at a young age, learning the game locally. His career with clubs Rower–Inistioge and St. Kieran's College was marked by early success, including winning the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship.

As a player for Kilkenny, Eddie Keer's impact was profound. He won six All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championships (1963, 1967, 1969, 1972, 1974, 1975) and ten Leinster Senior Hurling Championships. Known for his scoring prowess, he accumulated an impressive record of 211 goals and 1426 points in 298 matches, making him the leading annual scorer for eleven consecutive years from 1963 to 1976. His achievements earned him multiple All-Star Awards (1971–1975) and Cú Chulainn Awards (1963, 1964, 1966, 1967).

Transitioning into coaching, Eddie Keer led Kilkenny to an All-Ireland title in 1979. Beyond his playing and coaching career, he worked in banking and was a founding member of the No Name Club in 1978, an organization aimed at providing alternative youth activities to public houses.

Eddie Keer's legacy is cemented with numerous honors, including induction into the GAA Hall of Fame in 2013. His contributions extended beyond sport; he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Limerick and was awarded the Freedom of Kilkenny County Council in 2018.
