Chad Aaron Novak, born around 1976 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, moved to Regina in 2001 and became a certified management accountant (CMA) in 2004. He worked as an income tax auditor for the Canada Revenue Agency before moving to SaskTel, where he was employed during his 2012 mayoral campaign. Novak is married and an automobile enthusiast. In 2009, his Pontiac Solstice was vandalized with blood, but police did not respond, upsetting him. Novak ran for Regina mayor in 2012, launching his campaign dramatically with a sports car entrance. He promised a new stadium, improved infrastructure, affordable housing, and transparency through social media. His campaign was contentious; he accused city officials of wrongdoing and faced backlash on social media, including fake accounts and a suspended Twitter account. He withdrew from the race in July 2012 due to stress but rejoined in September, spending $130 on his campaign. He received 0.8% of the vote.
