Anwar is a 2010 Indian action thriller film written and directed by Amal Neerad, shot simultaneously in Malayalam and Tamil. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran as Anwar, with supporting roles from Prakash Raj, Mamtha Mohandas, Nithya Menen, Lal, and Sampath Raj. Inspired by the 2008 American film Traitor, the plot revolves around the Coimbatore bomb blast and Anwar's involvement in terrorist activities. The story begins with Anwar being arrested for carrying hawala money and meeting Babu Sait, a terrorist leader, in prison. Anwar becomes Babu Sait's trusted aide, carrying out missions like planting a bomb at police headquarters. However, flashbacks reveal Anwar's past: he is an NRI whose family was killed in the Coimbatore blast, and his fiancée Ayesha was wrongly arrested for the bombing. Seeking justice, Anwar infiltrates Babu Sait's gang to uncover their plans. In the present, Anwar informs officer Stalin about upcoming attacks, leading to a confrontation where Stalin is killed. Anwar then sabotages a ship carrying terrorists to Mumbai, killing them and confronting Babu Sait. Revealing his true motive—to avenge his family—Anwar kills Babu Sait's associates before Babu Sait takes his own life. The film ends with Anwar and Ayesha living together, their mission accomplished but unrecognized. Production began in March 2010, primarily shot in Kochi. The soundtrack, composed by Gopi Sundar, features seven Malayalam and five Tamil songs. At the 2011 Vanitha Film Awards, the song "Kizhakku Pookkum" won three awards.
