2016 Portland Thorns FC season

The 2016 season was the Portland Thorns FC's fourth season in the National Women's Soccer League. They finished first, winning the NWSL Shield, an improvement over their sixth-place finish in the 2015 season. They lost their first match of the 2016 NWSL Championship tournament. The Thorns are without 6 starters due to USWNT call-ups. They are using their amateur players in non-paid game when the Thorns go on national duty. They suffer their first loss of the season against the Houston Dash. A win would see them finish the season in second place. They will begin their new season against San Francisco on April 29. The final game of the 2015 NWSL season is against Orlando Pride on May 25.
