The 1992–93 NBA season marked the Washington Bullets' 32nd year in the league. They selected Tom Gugliotta with the sixth overall pick in the draft and acquired Don MacLean from UCLA via a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, who had obtained him from the Detroit Pistons. The team also signed free agents Buck Johnson and Doug Overton but lost Ledell Eackles for the entire season due to weight issues. The Bullets struggled early, starting 7–10 and enduring a nine-game losing streak in December, resulting in a 15–36 record at the All-Star break. Bernard King was released mid-season to the New Jersey Nets. Ellison averaged 17.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks, while Chapman scored 12.5 points per game. Larry Stewart added 9.8 points and 4.7 rebounds, and LaBradford Smith contributed 9.3 points.
