- A Certain Sacrifice** is a 1985 American drama film co-written and directed by Stephen Jon Lewicki, marking Madonna's acting debut. Filmed between 1979 and 1981 on a low budget of $20,000, it was released in 1985 after Madonna gained fame. The movie follows Bruna (played by Madonna), who lives with three lovers and seeks revenge after being attacked by them and raped by Raymond Hall. With the help of her group, she kidnaps Raymond and performs a Satanic ritual.
The film features Jeremy Pattnosh as Dashiel and Charles Kurtz as Raymond Hall. Despite its controversial reception due to explicit content, it achieved cult status among Madonna's fans. The home video release sold over 50,000 copies in its first week, though critics noted its amateurish quality. Madonna attempted to prevent its release but it became a financial success, capitalizing on her fame and earning Lewicki significant profits.
