Convergys
Convergys Corporation, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, specialized in customer management and information management products for large corporations. Their offerings included agent-assisted and self-service software across various industries, as well as convergent billing and business support systems (BSS) tailored to telecom, utilities, and cable providers. With approximately 130,000 employees spread across 33 countries, Convergys was a significant player in the outsourcing industry.
The company's origins trace back to Cincinnati Bell Information Systems and MATRIXX, subsidiaries of Cincinnati Bell, along with AT&T Solutions Customer Care, acquired in 1998. Convergys became an independent entity following its IPO in August 1998. Through strategic acquisitions, including iBasis Speech Solutions (2002), DigitalThink (2003), Finali (2004), and Intervoice (2008), Convergys expanded its capabilities and market reach. These moves included enhancing IVR solutions, expanding HR outsourcing, and bolstering support services for e-commerce.
In 2012, NEC acquired Convergys' Information Management Business for $449 million, while Convergys Philippines was recognized as a leading BPO employer. The company sold its Human Resources Management line to NorthgateArinso in 2010 and later merged with Stream Global Services in 2014, becoming the second-largest BPO provider with 125,000 employees across 31 countries.
Convergys' history also included acquisitions such as Datacom's call center operations (2013) and buw Holding (2016). In 2018, Synnex acquired Convergys for $2.43 billion, marking the end of its independent journey and integrating it into Concentrix.
