Sørreisa is a municipality in Troms county, Norway, with an area of 363 square kilometers and a population of 3,428, making it the 248th largest by area and 218th most populous municipality. The administrative center is the village of Sørreisa, with other villages including Grunnreisa, Skøelva, and Smørsgård. Established on September 1, 1886, it was formed from the division of Tranøy Municipality into three parts: Tranøy, Lofoten, and Moskenesøysokn. The municipality has undergone changes in its administrative boundaries, including a transfer of部分 to Lenvik Municipality in 1964. It moved between counties, being part of Troms og Finnmark from January 1, 2020, before reverting to Troms on January 1, 2024. The name "Sørreisa" originates from the Reisafjorden, which is named after the river Reisaelva. The prefix "sør" means "south," distinguishing it from Nordreisa. The coat of arms, granted in 1984, features a red background with three six-pointed yellow stars, inspired by an old seal from the 1700s. Geographically, Sørreisa is situated along Reisafjorden, east of Senja, and borders several municipalities. It has a continental subarctic climate (Dfc) and hosts a weather station operated by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. The municipality is governed by a council of 19 representatives, responsible for primary education, healthcare, social services, zoning, economic development, and utilities.
