Cosmopterix amalthea is a moth species belonging to the Cosmopterigidae family. It is found in Cuba, with adults having been collected in July. The male specimen has a forewing length of 3.5 mm. Its head exhibits a shining greyish-white frons with greenish and reddish reflections, while the vertex and neck tufts are bronze-brown with similar color accents. The labial palpus is characterized by short segments with distinct white and dark brown features. The thorax is dark brown with a reddish gloss and a white median line in its posterior half. Legs display varying shades of brown, with metallic silver lines and white streaks on the midleg and hindleg tibiae, along with white apical rings on tarsal segments.

The forewing is dark brown with reddish gloss, featuring silver metallic streaks and tubercular fascia, accompanied by bluish reflections. The hindwing is greyish-brown with cilia matching its coloration. On the underside, the forewing retains a greyish-brown tone with visible white streaks, while the hindwing remains greyish-brown with a whitish base streak. The abdomen's condition prevents detailed description due to oil residue.
