"Greeks Bearing Gifts" is the seventh episode of Torchwood: Series 1, aired on BBC Three in November 2006. The episode features Mary (Daniela Denby-Ashe), a stranded Arcateenian alien who seeks to escape Earth using a recently uncovered transporter. Torchwood investigates a building site where an ancient skeleton and alien artefact are found. Toshiko encounters Mary, a scavenger of alien artefacts, at a bar. Mary gifts her a pendant that enables mind-reading, with the promise not to disclose its origin.

The next day, Toshiko discovers Owen and Gwen's negative thoughts about her through the pendant. When Mary appears at her home, she insists the pendant can be used for good and reveals romantic feelings for Toshiko. Mary later identifies herself as an exiled alien and explains the transporter's purpose. At Torchwood, Jack realizes Mary is a killer and reprograms the artefact to send her into the sun. Owen and Gwen apologize to Toshiko, who subsequently destroys the pendant.

Mary's species, Arcateenians, also appears in "Invasion of the Bane" from The Sarah Jane Adventures. The episode includes songs by Snow Patrol, Travis, Placebo, and KT Tunstall, each playing during key moments. The title references Virgil's Aeneid, highlighting the Trojan horse metaphor.
