The Court-Martial of Appeal (Krigshovrätten) was a Swedish appellate court for military cases, established through Gustavus Adolphus' Articles of War in 1621 as the Colonel's War Court. Over time, it evolved significantly, including periods of dissolution and revival. During Queen Christina's reign, it became part of the War College, while under Charles XI, separate courts like the General War Court and Admiralty Court were created. The Court-Martial of Appeal was formally established in 1791 with a specific structure, but faced changes, such as its dissolution after 1791 and revival in 1797. It was later integrated into the Svea Court of Appeal in 1916, retaining some military members alongside appellate court judges. The Military Court Proceedings Act of 1948 led to its abolition on June 30, 1949, ending its role as a separate military appellate court after nearly four centuries of service.
