Ulster New York
Ulster is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 12,660 at the 2020 census. The town of Ulster is in the northeastern part of the county. It is directly north of the city of Kingston. Ulster is partially situated inside Catskill Park. The New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) and U.S. Route 9W pass through the western parts of the town. Ulster has a total area of 28.9 square miles (75.2 square km), of which 26.5 square miles is land and 2.5 miles (7.20 square km) is water. It was formed in protest to what was considered political misrule by the town of Kingston, the action of the supervisors was soon ratified by the state legislature. In 1999, Lisa Groppuso was the first female supervisor, elected on the Democratic ticket. In 2005 Ulster voters elected 21-year-old Nicky Bnerner as the youngest town supervisor in New York state history, and the first Democratic board in the town's history. The new town contained approximately 27.5square miles of land.
