Theerpugal Thiruththapadalam

  • Theerpugal Thiruththapadalam* (transl. Judgments can be amended) is a 1982 Indian Tamil-language mystery film written, directed, and produced by M. Bhaskar. The film stars Sivakumar, Ambika, and Sathyakala and was released on October 9, 1982, becoming a silver jubilee hit.

The plot revolves around Rajesh, a legal advisor, and his possessive wife Radha, who often argues with him and suspects him of having an affair. After one such argument, Rajesh returns home to find a dead man named Lawrence, a businessman, in their house. Panicked, Rajesh disposes of the body by pushing Lawrence's car off a cliff. Radha, who has a habit of sleeping after arguments, cannot recall events that occurred while she was asleep. The police begin investigating Lawrence's death, suspecting foul play, and later focus on Sheila, Lawrence’s wife. However, Rajesh provides false testimony to protect her due to feelings of guilt.

As the story unfolds, Rajesh learns from Kamal, a salesman, that Lawrence was a womanizer. Sheila later blackmails Rajesh emotionally, revealing that Radha had an affair with Lawrence and threatening to expose the truth unless he pays her. Rajesh borrows money from his father-in-law to silence her. The police continue their investigation, leading to a series of suspicious events before the mystery is finally resolved.

The film’s soundtrack was composed by Shankar–Ganesh. Despite initial reluctance from distributors due to the failure of Bhaskar’s previous film *Soolam*, *Theerpugal Thiruththapadalam* received positive reviews, with critics praising Sivakumar and Ambika’s performances, as well as Y. G. Mahendran’s humor.
