Sanjay Kumar Jhā is an Indian-American business executive renowned for his leadership in the technology industry. Born in Sultanganj, India, he holds a Ph.D. in electronics engineering from the University of Strathclyde and was awarded an honorary D.Sc. by the same university. Jhā began his career at Qualcomm in 1994 as a senior engineer, advancing through various leadership roles to become the company's COO by 2006. He then served as CEO of Motorola Mobility from 2008 until 2012 when Google acquired the company. In 2014, he became CEO of GlobalFoundries, a major semiconductor foundry, and remained in this role until March 2018. Jhā has also contributed to industry development by serving on the boards of the Semiconductor Industry Association and the Global Semiconductor Alliance. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his leadership in advancing semiconductor technology. His compensation at Motorola included substantial cash bonuses and stock options, reflecting his significant role in the company's leadership during Google's acquisition.
