MalaysiaUkraine relations

Malaysia and Ukraine established diplomatic relations on 3 March 1992, with Malaysia being among the first countries to recognize Ukraine's independence. The relationship has historically focused on economic, scientific, military-technical, and humanitarian cooperation. Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad visited Ukraine in 2003, fostering ties that included exchanges on Islamic affairs administration, which Ukraine sought to emulate.

A significant event occurred in 2014 when Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over Ukrainian territory, resulting in substantial loss of life. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Malaysia supported Ukraine by voting in favor of a United Nations resolution demanding Russia's withdrawal and later sent medical aid in February 2023.

In education, Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ukrainian universities to establish offshore medical degree programs for Malaysian students.

Economically, trade between the two nations includes exports such as chemical fertilizers, sunflower oil, palm oil, and machinery. However, trade volumes fluctuated due to the conflict, dropping significantly in 2022 but rebounding by 30% in 2023 to reach US$374.8 million.
