Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust (formerly Humber NHS Foundation Trust) provides health and social care services to approximately 800,000 people across Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, and North East Lincolnshire. The trust offers a range of services, including community and therapy services, mental health inpatient and community care, learning disability support, healthy lifestyle programs, addiction services, and primary care, which includes managing eight GP practices. In January 2020, the trust opened Inspire, a new mental health inpatient unit in Hull. This facility won two Design in Mental Health Awards in August 2021. The trust also leads at Whitby Community Hospital, which is undergoing renovation and expected to complete by Spring 2022. It was the first mental health trust to use the Lorenzo patient record system as part of NHS Connecting for Health. The trust has experienced significant management changes. Michele Moran became Chief Executive in September 2016 after the collapse of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, leading to criticism over her appointment. John Byrne was appointed medical director in 2017 despite Southern Health's leadership failures, which resulted in convictions for systemic neglect. Caroline Flint joined as chair in May 2021. The trust has faced performance challenges. In July 2013, East Riding Community Hospital closed 18 of its 30 beds following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, though it later met standards during an unannounced inspection.
