Houses of Hillel and Shammai

The Mishnah details disputes between the houses of Hillel and Shammai. The split between them caused the Oral Law to become like two Torahs. In some cases, though not always, Beit Hillele's opinion is the more lenient of the two. The debates affected the shaping of the Oral History. In one case, it led to the creation of the oral history of Judaism, the Torah, and the Oralis Torah. An edition of the Talmud is published by Schrift, with corrections, by The Modern Library.
