FM12 NBC Respirator

The FM12 CBRN Respirator is a military gas mask developed by Avon Rubber in 2000 as a replacement for the S10 NBC Respirator but was not widely adopted due to its similarity to the S10. It features two filter canisters: a lighter, pressed metal type for training and riot control, and a heavier, plastic-encased type for CBRN protection with up to 10 years of shelf life. The mask itself has a 20-year lifespan.

The FM12 shares some characteristics with the S10, including a fail-safe drinking device, two speech transmitters, and compatibility with corrective lenses. However, it differs in design: it has a lower profile, sits closer to the face, and includes an inner mask to prevent lens fogging. The drinking tube is longer than the S10's, making it easier to use. Some FM12 variants can accommodate two filters simultaneously; when only one filter is used, a blanking plug is required.

The FM12 has elastic straps connecting to a mesh fabric piece at the back of the head for comfort and a better seal. Variants include the CT12, designed for counter-terrorism by removing the drinking straw to reduce weight, and the CT12-IM, which replaces the drinking port with a built-in microphone.

The FM12 and its variants are used by various military forces worldwide, including Belgium, New Zealand (as the ABC-Maske M/93 in Denmark), Ireland, Singapore, the UK police, Netherlands, Norway, US LAPD, SAS forces, and others.
