Diana Lebacs

Diana Melinda Lebacs was a Curaçaoan educator, actress, and author. She wrote in both Papiamento and Dutch. In 1976 she received the Zilveren Griffel (Silver Stylus) award, one of the Netherlands' highest honors for youth literature. In 2003 she earned the inaugural Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied for her book Caimin's geheim. In 2007 she was honored as a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. She died on 11 July 2022 at the age of 70. She is survived by her husband, Pacheco Domacassé, and a daughter, Elisabeth. She was also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, both of whom are still living in the Netherlands. She had a son, Willem Mertjo Lebac, who was a customs officer and a woodcarver. She also had a daughter who is now a teacher and a mother-of-two, Elise Lebaccas, who is also an author.
