Colegio San Jos Arequipa

Colegio San José is a private Catholic school in Arequipa, Peru, offering pre-school, primary, and secondary education. Established by Jesuits in 1898, it is renowned for its academic and athletic achievements. As of 2013, it was among the top 22 schools (out of 2,439) to receive an "excellent" rating. With the second-largest campus in Peru and being the second oldest school in Arequipa after Sagrados Corazones, it competes with Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott, Lord Byron School, and Max Uhle School.

The school's history dates back to 1578 as Colegio de Santiago but was closed in 1767. The current institution reopened in 1898 and moved to its present location on Avenida Alfonso Ugarte in 1956. A notable milestone occurred in 1966 when a Loyola University Chicago graduate studied student values at the school.

Colegio San José has a strong commitment to community service through the San Jose Voluntary Group, established in 1998. By 2014, this group had expanded to seven teams, serving various healthcare institutions including Essalud and Hogar de Cristo.

The school's alumni association, ASIA-San José, is part of the Latin American Jesuit Alumni network. Notable alumni include Víctor Andrés Belaúnde, former President of the United Nations General Assembly (1959-1960), and José Bustamante y Rivero, a Peruvian president (1945-1948) and later president of the International Court of Justice at The Hague (1967-1969).
