Clarence Park St Albans
Clarence Park, located in St Albans, England, is a 25-acre Victorian-era sports and leisure park comprising a 16-acre sports ground and a 9-acre public park. Established by Sir John Maple, owner of Maple's furniture store, and donated to the city, the park was designed by City Surveyor Mr. G. Ford and features a historic water fountain gifted by Lady Maple. The park was officially opened on July 23, 1894, by the Duke of Cambridge.
The sports ground hosts cricket, hockey, bowls, croquet, and is home to St Albans City Football Club, which has played there since its formation in 1908. The football pitch saw its first match on September 22, 1894. Nearby lies a cricket ground with a history dating back to 1875, hosting numerous Minor Counties Championship and List-A matches, including two appearances in the Women's Cricket World Cup.
The public park includes large grass areas for recreation, a bandstand, children's play area, café, and is occasionally used as a filming location for Disney Channel's *Bunnytown*. The cricket pavilion was built in 1894 and underwent restoration in 2023. Clarence Park remains largely unchanged since its opening, offering both sports facilities and leisure areas to the community.
